Professionally refurbished Herman Miller chair gives you the same frame, mechanism and ergonomic design as a new one for a fraction of the price. A new Aeron Size B lists at around £1,159 to £1,372 in the UK, and a new Mirra 2 at around £1,099, while our refurbished Herman Miller chairs start from £79 for visitor seating and £249 for task chairs.
The catch is that "refurbished" means very different things from one seller to the next. This guide covers which Herman Miller models suit refurbished buying, what they cost, how the warranty really works, and the checks to run before you pay.
Why Herman Miller chairs suit refurbishment
Herman Miller designs its task chairs for long commercial use, with modular parts that unbolt and replace. The parts that wear, such as castors, gas cylinders, arm pads, mesh and seat foam, can be swapped, while the frame and tilt mechanism carry over.
Supply is steady because large offices often replace chairs in bulk on lease or refresh cycles, long before the chairs are worn out.
What "refurbished" should mean
A properly refurbished chair has been inspected for frame and mechanism damage, cleaned, had worn parts such as cylinders, castors and arm pads replaced where needed, and had every adjustment tested. Ask any seller, including us, exactly what was done to the chair you are buying.
Which refurbished Herman Miller chair should you buy?
Pick the Aeron for long solo desk hours, the Mirra for an adaptive back at a lower price, and the Setu, Celle or Caper for shared desks, meeting rooms and team orders.

Herman Miller Aeron: the benchmark
The Aeron, designed by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick, is the chair most buyers search for. It uses a suspended Pellicle mesh seat and back instead of foam, so it stays cool over long sessions. There are two generations on the refurbished market:
- Aeron Classic (1994 to 2016): single-tension Pellicle mesh, with a PostureFit or adjustable lumbar pad option. Most refurbished Aerons in the UK are Classics.
- Aeron Remastered (2016 onwards): 8Z Pellicle with eight zones of tension and PostureFit SL. Expect to pay more refurbished.
"Fully loaded" means the chair has adjustable arms, forward tilt, tilt limiter and adjustable lumbar or PostureFit. Always confirm which features a listing includes.
Aeron sizing: choose the size before the price
The Aeron has no seat slider, so size is fixed by the frame. Buying the wrong size is the most common mistake with a refurbished Aeron.
| Size | User height | User weight | Seat depth |
|---|---|---|---|
| A (small) | 1.47 to 1.75 m | 40 to 68 kg | 40.6 cm |
| B (medium) | 1.58 to 1.98 m | 59 to 148 kg | 42.6 cm |
| C (large) | 1.60 to 1.98 m | 81.5 to 159 kg | 47 cm |
Sizes are Herman Miller's Remastered guidance, via Back2. Size B suits most adults. For other chairs, see our office chair size guide. Comparing with Steelcase? Read our Aeron vs Leap V2 comparison.
Herman Miller Mirra: adaptive back, lower price
The Mirra, designed by Studio 7.5 in Berlin, uses a TriFlex polymer back that flexes as you move. The original Mirra was replaced by the Mirra 2 in 2013, so most refurbished stock is Mirra 1. It is lighter and simpler than the Aeron and is not sold in fixed sizes, which makes it a strong choice for shared or home offices.
Sayl, Setu, Celle and Caper: for teams and fit-outs
- Sayl: a suspension back inspired by bridge design, with good adjustability at a lower price point.
- Setu: almost no levers. The flexible frame adapts to each user, so it works well on hot desks and in meeting rooms.
- Celle: a cellular polymer seat and back that spreads pressure, with a full set of task adjustments.
- Caper: light, stackable and tough. Well suited to training rooms, schools and universities.

Does a refurbished Herman Miller come with a warranty?
Not Herman Miller's 12-year warranty. That applies to new chairs bought through authorised channels. A refurbished chair is covered by whoever sells it, and there are two routes:
| Herman Miller Refurbished (manufacturer) | Independent UK seller | |
|---|---|---|
| Warranty | 5-year refurbished product warranty | Set by the seller |
| Returns | Final sale, no returns | UK consumer rights apply; ours is 14 days |
| Models | Aeron only | Aeron, Mirra, Sayl, Setu, Celle, Caper and more |
| Availability | US and Canadian online store | Delivered across the UK |
Manufacturer details are from Herman Miller's refurbished programme page. See our delivery and returns page for our terms.
Seven checks before you buy a refurbished Herman Miller
- Is it genuine? Look for the Herman Miller label under the seat. Copies are common on marketplaces, especially of the Aeron.
- Which generation and spec? Classic or Remastered, and which adjustments are fitted.
- Which size? For the Aeron, check the size letter matches your height and weight.
- What was replaced? Ask specifically about the cylinder, castors, arm pads and mesh.
- Mesh condition: a sagging or torn seat mesh cannot be patched, only replaced.
- Photos: ask for photos of the actual chair, not stock images.
- Returns and warranty in writing: before you pay, not after.
Is a refurbished Herman Miller suitable for DSE assessments?
Often, yes. A fully adjustable Mirra or Celle offers the seat height, back, arm and tilt adjustments that assessors look for. The deciding factor is the individual fit, not whether the chair is new. See our DSE chair guide for the adjustments to check.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a refurbished Herman Miller chair in the UK?
Our refurbished Herman Miller chairs currently range from £79 for an Equa visitor chair to £349 for a Mirra 1 TriFlex or Setu Lounge. A new Aeron or Mirra 2 costs over £1,000 in the UK.
Is a refurbished Herman Miller worth it?
For most buyers, yes. You pay much less for the same frame and mechanism. Check the warranty and returns terms, since those are what differ between sellers.
Aeron or Mirra?
The Aeron suits long solo sessions and buyers who know their size. The Mirra is not sold in sizes, so it suits more body types in one chair, and it costs less.
Can I buy refurbished Herman Miller chairs in bulk?
Yes, subject to stock. The Setu, Celle and Caper are the most practical for team orders. Get in touch for a bulk quote.
Do you deliver across the UK?
Yes. Delivery is free on chairs over £50 to mainland UK. You can also view stock at our Bradford warehouse by appointment.
